When Fros Collide

This time last year, I had already decided to begin my journey as a single mom.  For me, this meant:  finding a sperm donor, and if I needed to, using some of those eggs I had frozen.

Before this single mom adventure moved forward, I needed to find a new place to live. Somewhere me and my future kid would be comfortable.  As much as I loved being downtown, my loft living situation wasn't conducive to a new addition.  I mean, the only doors in the apartment were the main one and the door to the bathroom.  So I started looking for an apartment with more doors; a two bedroom.

For those who aren't aware, rent in Los Angeles is completely insane.  During my search for a new pad, I realized renting a two bedroom flat would cost more monthly than a mortgage for a condo or small house.  Seriously.  THEN I added up all the rent checks I've written since moving to LA.  Get ready.  No, really hold on to your hats -- I've paid (or rather flushed) almost $150,000 in rent in the last 10 years.  Are you kidding me?!  I could have equity in a property.  After seeing the numbers, I couldn't deny the best choice was for me to buy my first house.

After working with a super-awesome realtor, Shannon Shue, and looking at what seemed like a hundred houses, I finally found my home!  A cute bungalow:  2 bedrooms with a den, garage, a grapefruit AND lemon tree in the backyard.  I moved in Dec 9, 2016.

Taking a Knee

It is not about the flag.
It is not about the national anthem.
It is not about the military.
It is not about 45.
It is not about sports leagues. It is not about sports, professional or otherwise.

It is about:

Sundays Were Made For Football

I grew up in a football household:  My dad coached for years.  My little brother was practically born wearing a Cowboy's jersey; he played in college.  And I'm pretty sure my dad's favorite memory of me in high school was his daughter scoring two touchdowns in Osbourn Park's Powder Puff flag football game. I still remember the giant smile on his face.

I fell in love with football during Super Bowl XXII when Washington's Doug Williams shined like nobody's business. As a little kid, I didn't know how significant that game was. I wasn't aware Williams was the first African American quarterback to play in a Super Bowl. I didn't realize he made history in several other ways that day.  I just remember how football made me feel. I was in awe!  After that game, I started cutting football photos from the newspaper and wall-papering my Strawberry Shortcake themed room with Redskin posters. I was hooked!

Happy International Women's Day!

I’m lucky to have crossed paths with so many kick ass women in my life. Thank you to those who have picked me up when I’ve fallen, scraped me off the floor, laughed and cried with me, propelled me forward, supported me, reminded me to rest, inspired me, encouraged and cheered for me, fought with me and have chosen to walk beside me. Most of all, thank you for loving me, flaws and all. You. Are. Amazing. I wouldn’t be who I am without you. I’m grateful to carry a piece of you with me every day. Hugs and lots of love! #InternationalWomensDay

Female Filmmakers Fuse Film Festival

I'm not gonna lie, January was a big month for rejections, but just like in life, I have to remind myself that it's all part of the process. With that said, it was nice to receive a good news email yesterday:  "We would like to congratulate you and your film, Chill, as it is one of the official selected films for this year's festival!"

Yay! Congrats to all the filmmakers!
